Demolition of Bracebridge Memorial Arena starts after Labour Day

The external demolition of the Bracebridge Memorial Arena will start on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Officials with the Town of Bracebridge explain Aquicon Construction, who also handled building the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre, will be using "only heavy machinery to take down the facility. There will be no use of explosives." They ask everyone to stay as far away from the facility as possible during the demolition process. Officials point out fencing has been installed around parts of the building. Along with that, Chub Downey Ln. from James St. to Hiram St. will be closed until Oct. 31. They add the east side of the sidewalk along James from Ann St. to Chub Downey and the sidewalk on Hiram from Ann to Chub Downey may be closed as required, too. Officials say the skateboard park near the arena will stay open, but part of the gravel parking lot will need to be closed.
