BC Forest Discovery Centre celebrates return of historic locomotive

The BC Forest Discovery Centre, in Duncan, says they’re hoping everyone will come down this long weekend to help celebrate the return of the historic Hillcrest No. 1 locomotive.   According to their social media, the locomotive spent most of its career in the Cowichan Valley, and having it returned means a lot to the local area.   “The fully restored Hillcrest Shay No. 1 is so much more besides being Canada’s only operational Shay locomotive,” they say. “It’s an important part of our forest industry and communities’ heritage and culture.  “One that should be preserved, promoted, and celebrated.”  The locomotive can be viewed this weekend during their ‘Journey of Labour’ event where they will celebrate the eight-year restoration story, along with rides, crafts and cake each day at 1 p.m.   For a full list of Labour Day weekend events visit their website.  The post BC Forest Discovery Centre celebrates return of historic locomotive  appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
