Provincial exotic animal regulations encouraged by Hastings County

The enforcement and regulation of exotic animals in Ontario is continued to be encouraged by Hastings County officials. County Council agreed at its meeting on Thursday to petition the provincial government to implement provincial legislation to restrict the possession, breeding, and use of non-native (“exotic”) wild animals. Part of this petition would also license zoos in order to guarantee the fair and consistent application of policy throughout Ontario for the safety of Ontario’s citizens and the non-native (“exotic”) wild animal population. The issue in Hastings County first came to light 4 years ago when a small zoo was built north of Bancroft near Maynooth....
