Two of Vancouver Island’s three casinos will soon be owned by the Nanaimo First Nation. This week Great Canadian Entertainment announced it’s signed a deal with Petroglyph Development Corporation to sell the Elements Casino in Victoria. The companies previously signed a deal for Petroglyph to purchase Casino Nanaimo. Petroglyph is a wholly owned corporation of the Snuneymuxw First Nation focused on developing economic potential. Ian Simpson, Petroglyph’s Chief Executive Officer, says the deal will unlock unprecedented economic potential for the nation. Chief Mike Wyse says it will provide a solid foundation for the nation’s self-determination. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval. The third casino on the Island is the RimRock Casino in Port Alberni, it’s owned by the Coulson Group of companies.
