Island nations, regional districts getting new funding for safety

Communities on Vancouver Island are getting additional funding from the province to prepare for disasters and reduce risks. On Thursday Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Bowinn Ma announced $1.4 million in new funding for 29 communities around the province to bolster emergency operations centres. On the Island, that includes funding for the Comox Valley Regional District to purchase portable sound equipment, safety vests, and install earthquake-resistant enhancements to secure the valley’s operations centre. It also includes funding for more collaboration with the Tla’amin and K’Omoks First Nations. The Cowichan Valley Regional District and Homalco First Nation are also receiving funding to improve their emergency response capabilities. In total Island organizations will receive nearly $330,000 in new funding. The post Island nations, regional districts getting new funding for safety appeared first on My Campbell River Now.
