President Joe Biden won’t seek second full-term

President Joe Biden says he will not be seeking re-election in a letter posted to his official X account earlier today.  According to CNN, this is the first time a United States president has dropped out of a reelection run since 1968 when president Lyndon Johnson decided not to seek another full term. [caption id="attachment_84099" align="alignnone" width="1182"] Photo credit: Joe Biden Twitter (X)[/caption] Biden says he is humbled for the time he served, and seeking reelection at this time just isn’t in the cards.  “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President," Biden says in the letter. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it’s in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties.”  He is endorsing his vice-president Kamala Harris as the nominee for the Democrat Party’s presidential candidate.  Since he debated former US president Donald Trump, there has been many people who have been skeptical of Biden’s ability to serve another four years and run a campaign against Trump.  According to CNN, there is also a question as to Biden’s ability to fulfill his current term.  “Biden’s decision is also likely to raise questions about his ability to fulfill the duties of the presidency for the remainder of the term,” the article states.  Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2021, and he served as vice president under Barack Obama.  The post President Joe Biden won’t seek second full-term  appeared first on My Campbell River Now.
