You will soon be able to view parts of Huntsville in the palm of your hand. Katrina Cotterchio, president of the Huntsville and Area Historical Society, said they developed the app to highlight and increase cultural tourism. She added it can be downloaded through the Apple or Google Play stores through the STQRY app. “There aren't a lot of options when it comes to tourist activities downtown, especially when it comes to heritage and history,” said Cotterchio. “This is a great way to now show the history of our town and the interesting things that exist.” Cotterchio added that people need to remember the struggles of the people who came before and how they worked hard to build the town. She said the app contains 26 stops of historical interest, adding people can use the GPS location services to get more information about places on the map. “As they step into one of the sites, it will start reading to them the information about the historic building and the people who live there,” she added. They are celebrating the app's official launch on July 24 at Partner’s Hall at 37 Main St. E. in Huntsville. “As more development crops up, we want to make sure that we maintain a balance between the new buildings and keep the old buildings and the heritage alive as well,” she said. While they’re using a third-party app for now, Cotterchio hopes they will be able to develop their own app soon. However, she added they’re still awaiting word on a few grants they’ve applied for “We know that there are people out there that have really great ideas that would love to share, and they could share with us,” she continued. “We really just want to create a really open and welcoming platform for people to share their love of history and to share the stories that they have about the town that we love so much.” The post New app to offer a digitized historical tour of Huntsville appeared first on My Muskoka Now.
