The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission today issued an official statement related to the application of DNS proxies on Google or Cloudflare's DNS servers, making it not work as before to browse some websites that have already been blocked by the MCMC.Touching on this, SKMM said they are working closely with local service providers to improve and strengthen prevention and protection measures, including in aspects of DNS (Domain Name System) management.MCMC explains that this step is to continue to protect the people from online harm. From January 2022 until August 2024, a total of 10,423 websites were blocked due to violations of the law – and 95.7% covered gambling, porn, copyright infringement, illegal investment, and even prostitution sites. These sites have been blocked in order to curb other crimes, and to ensure that the ban remains effective, various additional measures have been taken. It is said that this step is taken as a holistic approach for the entire country from all walks of life to not go beyond the available protection mechanisms that can have a negative impact on oneself and the family.SKMM shared this further from the complaints of various users who said telecommunication companies such as Maxis and TIME have applied DNS proxies on Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and also Google (8.8.8.8), which makes users unable to use these alternative DNS servers to access the site which is prevented by MCMC.
