The number of women seeking abortions in the U.S. increased in the first three months of 2024 compared with the number before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, according to a report released Wednesday, reflecting efforts by Democratic-controlled states to expand access. A major reason for the rise in abortions is that several Democratic-controlled states have enacted laws to protect doctors who use telemedicine to see patients in places where abortion is illegal, according to the #WeCount quarterly report for the Planned Parenthood Society, which advocates for abortion access.
