Jakarta — In commemorating the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Saturday (17/8), Indonesia will not only showcase its ambitious plan to build a new capital city more than 1,200 kilometers from crowded Jakarta, but also new trackless (autonomous/ART) train technology made by China. According to the organizers, guests who will attend the celebration of the Indonesian Independence Day in Nusantara, Saturday (17/8) tomorrow, will be taken around by ART, the first autonomous train in Indonesia. The trackless train is just one way Indonesia is building a new smart and green capital city in Nusantara by 2045. “Our target is for 80 percent of land transportation to use public transportation to activate public mobility,” said Silvia Halim, Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of the Indonesian Capital City Authority (IKN). The trackless train is also the latest sign of growing collaboration between Indonesia and China, Indonesia's largest trading partner and second-largest investor. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi first proposed the use of China's autonomous trains in the archipelago when he met with Chinese Transportation Minister Li Xiaopeng in Beijing last January.
