US Concerned About Potential Iranian Missile Transfer to Russia

The United States said any transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia would be a significant escalation in the Ukraine war, following reports of closer ties between the two countries in recent weeks, including arms transfers. Reuters reported in August that Russia was expected to receive hundreds of Fath-360 short-range ballistic missiles from Iran. Dozens of Russian military personnel are also being trained in Iran on the use of satellite-guided weapons in case they are needed in the war in Ukraine. Wall Street Journal on Friday (6/9) reported that Iran had sent short-range missiles to Russia, citing an unnamed US official. “We have been warning about the deepening security partnership between Russia and Iran since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine and we are alarmed by these reports,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett. “Any transfer of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia would be a significant escalation in Iran's support for Russian aggression in Ukraine.” Another US official told Reuters that they are closely watching the potential Iranian-Russian missile shipments.
