Malaysian authorities rescued more than 400 children on Wednesday from alleged sexual abuse at an orphanage run by a prominent Islamic business organization with ties to a banned religious sect, a police officer said. Police arrested 171 adults, including Islamic preachers, during coordinated raids at 20 locations in two Malaysian states, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said. Authorities also managed to rescue 201 boys and 201 girls, aged between one and 17. The rescue was carried out after reports of neglect, abuse, sexual harassment and violence. Razarudin revealed this at a press conference, but did not mention who made the reports. All the orphanages are managed by Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB), said Razarudin.
