Ukraine and Poland set to expand agricultural trade

Poland has a strong demand for organic products, protein feed, rapeseed, and soybean meal, creating opportunities for Ukrainian agricultural producers to expand supplies. This was highlighted during a meeting between the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitalii Koval, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski, along with representatives of Polish agricultural organizations, as reported by Ukrinform, citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. During the discussions, the participants addressed the development of Ukrainian-Polish agricultural trade. “Poland has a significant demand for organic products, protein feed, rapeseed, and soybean meal. Ukrainian agricultural producers are ready to expand supplies, which will not only support Polish livestock farming but also strengthen the economic partnership between the countries,” the statement said. Vitalii Koval emphasized that Ukraine and Poland share common goals, which provide a foundation for establishing an effective model of cooperation between Ukrainian agricultural producers and the EU. The Ukrainian and Polish ministers, along with agricultural associations, focused on addressing key challenges and opportunities for collaboration, particularly the continuity of Ukrainian agricultural exports. “The expiration of the Autonomous Trade Preferences on June 5 means that Ukraine needs a clear understanding of future conditions for accessing the EU market. Poland, currently holding the presidency of the EU Council, has every opportunity to lead this process,” Koval said. The meeting also touched on the adaptation of Ukrainian agricultural legislation to EU standards. Koval underscored the importance of ensuring this process benefits both Ukrainian and European agricultural producers, while Polish partners shared their expertise in implementing new technical regulations. Additionally, the discussion included market expansion and joint innovations, with participants agreeing that sharing experience, introducing technologies, and widening market access would help make the agricultural sectors of both countries more sustainable and competitive. As reported, in 2024, trade turnover between Ukraine and Poland reached $11.7 billion, with $4.6 billion accounting for Ukrainian exports.
