NSTC delegation tours Europe to expand net-zero emission cooperation

A delegation from the National Science and Technology Council toured Europe in mid-June to seek green energy cooperation as part of the government’s policy goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.   According to the NSTC, during stops in France, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, delegates and their counterparts discussed global trends and development strategies in areas spanning renewable energy development and hydrogen energy, as well as carbon capture, utilization and storage strategies. They also exchanged views on talent cultivation and ways to enhance public support for related government policies, the council added.   Luo Meng-fan, director-general of the NSTC’s Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development, said research institutions visited by the group included a carbon emission reduction alliance between France’s Dunkirk industrial zone and University of the Littoral Opal Coast, as well as the Technical University of Denmark’s offshore technology center and CCUS technological development laboratory.   Following the success of the first meeting staged in April this year under the Taiwan-France Science and Technology Cooperation Convention concluded in November last year, the group called on the Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission in Paris to seek new opportunities for cooperation in net-zero technology development, he added.   The delegation also stopped in at several key companies in the four countries, including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, which specializes in infrastructure investment; Topsoe A/S, a Danish enterprise working on decarbonization technologies; AW-Energy, a Finnish leader in wave energy technology; and Stockholm Exergi AB, a major energy provider based in Sweden’s capital.
