Neeraj Chopra made history at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by becoming the second Indian athlete to win an individual gold medal. This achievement also marked India's first-ever gold in track and field. As he aims to defend his title at the Paris Olympics 2024 tonight (8 August), Chopra has already impressed with a javelin throw of 89.34 meters during the qualification round. In recognition of his achievement, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, gifted Chopra a custom XUV 700. Chopra expressed his thanks to Mahindra on Twitter for this generous gesture. Mahindra also presented the same vehicle to Sumit Antil, who won gold in the men's javelin throw at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. Over time, the prominent businessman has honored various athletes with similar gifts to acknowledge their sporting successes. Haryana Chief Minister M.L. Khattar awarded Chopra a cash prize of Rs 6 crore and also provided a plot of land at a reduced rate. Additionally, Chopra was offered the role of leading the Centre of Excellence in Athletics in Panchkula. Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for Chopra, whose family hails from Punjab, where he spent much of his training at NIS Patiala. Ed-tech company BYJU'S also rewarded him with a cash prize of Rs 2 crore. The Manipur government, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) each awarded Chopra a cash prize of Rs 1 crore. CSK also created a special jersey featuring the number 8758 to celebrate Chopra's accomplishment. Go First, formerly known as GoAir, declared that it would offer free flights to all Indian Olympic medalists from Tokyo for the next five years. Additionally, regional airline Star Air, which serves 22 domestic destinations, has granted lifetime free air travel to the medal winners.
