Multiplexes have the space to screen re-releases, and producers are eager to promote their previous films, especially if they have the funds to go all out in promoting them.” Johar notes that producers are tapping into nostalgia, and it’s proving effective. “Certain films resonate strongly with audiences and some have achieved iconic status due to their storytelling and music. Maine Pyar Kiya is celebrating 35 years since its release, which boosts its recall value. People still want to watch these films because the memories associated with them remain vivid. That’s why most re-released films are performing reasonably well,” he explains.
