Former Black Stars player exposes harsh treatment

Former Ghana international Stephen Frimpong Manso has painted a grim picture of the conditions faced by Black Stars players during the 1990s.In a recent interview with Joy Sports, the ex-Bibiani Gold Stars coach revealed the harsh realities of inadequate facilities, poor living conditions, and mismanagement during training camps.Manso, who represented Ghana from 1987 to 1994, highlighted the stark contrast between the treatment of the Black Stars and their opponents. He particularly singled out former coach Burkhard Ziese for his efforts in improving player welfare."Sometimes we will be playing like we are playing, let's say, Ivory Coast. They will be staying at a five-star hotel...but the home team, rather, are not treated well. The conditions in Winneba at that time, everybody knew it wasn't the best," Manso said. The former player also accused officials of mismanaging funds allocated for the team, citing an incident where money meant for players was diverted.Ziese, according to Manso, was instrumental in addressing these issues and ensuring better conditions for the players.
