Concerns raised over Baba Yara Sports Stadium ahead of Black Stars' AFCON qualifier

The Club Licensing Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Esme Mends, has expressed concerns about the current state of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, warning that it is "not ready to host a competitive game" just 16 days before the Black Stars' crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola on September 5.Mends pointed out several issues with the stadium, including the poor condition of the pitch, which currently features faded grass. As the only CAF-approved venue in Ghana, the stadium's readiness is critical, yet Mends believes it is unsuitable for any major events at this time.Despite these concerns, Mends acknowledged the efforts being made by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to improve the pitch, describing the ongoing work as promising.
