Angry Ghanaian fans stormed the pitch at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi after Ghana's 1-0 loss to Angola on Thursday evening. The frustration boiled over when Angola scored a 93rd-minute goal in their Group F Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, sparking chaos among some of the home supporters. In a show of anger, fans threw plastic bottles and other objects onto the pitch, damaging nearly all the pitch panels at the stadium. The crowd kicked anything in sight, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.Police were able to arrest one fan involved in the disruptions, but much of the damage had already been done by that time. This incident is the latest in a string of fan-related misbehaviour at high-profile matches, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will likely issue sanctions.Ghana has a history of similar incidents. Earlier this year, the Ghana Football Association was fined $15,000 after fans breached security protocol in the Africa Cup of Nations group game between Ghana and Cape Verde. In 2019, another pitch invasion during a qualifier against South Africa in Cape Coast led to a $10,000 fine.
