City gets go-ahead to install new $22,000 welcome sign

The city of Duncan will be getting a new entrance sign that will cost $22,000.  Council moved to install the sign just after the silver bridge on the right-hand side of the Trans-Canada Highway at their July 15th meeting.  Last time it was before council they decided to consult with Cowichan Tribes on adding a greeting in Hul’q’umi’num’.  Duncan Council selected a final design for the south entrance sign featuring the word “MI NUW’ILUM” which means “welcome” in Hul’q’umi’num’.  City staff worked alongside Cowichan Tribes’ Sul-hween Committee to select the translation.   The Chamber of Commerce is also looking at using “MI NUW’ILUM” on the side of the regional visitor centre.  The funds will come from the Tourism reserve to purchase the sign, and it will be built alongside the new multi-use pathway.  The post City gets go-ahead to install new $22,000 welcome sign appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
