Cowichan Valley Basket Society gears up for BC Thanksgiving Food Drive

September 16th marks the start of the 17th Annual BC Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Cowichan Valley Basket Society is looking for donations and volunteers.  CVBS says they have seen a nearly 100% increase in visits this year.  To participate, you can wait for a bag left at your door to fill with non-perishable food items to be picked up by 10 am on September 21st.  All collected items will be shared between the Cowichan Valley Basket Society, Mill Bat Food Bank, Lake Cowichan Food Bank and Chemainus Harvest House Food Bank.  Food Banks Canada says that 33% of food bank users are children and over 8% are seniors.  Across the province, the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive collected over 674,000 pounds of food for 50 food banks.  In the Cowichan Valley, 6000 homes contributed over 14,000 pounds of non-perishable food.  You also have the option to donate online at the CVBS website.  The post Cowichan Valley Basket Society gears up for BC Thanksgiving Food Drive appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
