A Muskoka Region family is celebrating its third annual community BBQ this Saturday. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. at 305 Falcon Rd. For the third year in a row, the Arsenio family has organized this BBQ in conjunction with Northern Mentors, a non-profit organization that helps kids and families in need. Jason Arsenio, Northern Mentors president, says the event is free and is to promote togetherness in the communities. “Last year, we helped a nine-month-old baby boy that had cancer, and we raised over $5,000 for him,” says Arsenio. He adds this year, they have several activities for all the members of the families. “Slip and slide for the kids, minnow races, riding the barrel bull, and they can bring their ATVs to ride the track in the back,” he says. He adds there will also be a fireworks show at 10 p.m. Arsenio says the community BBQ is not a fundraiser event, but if anyone wants to donate, there will be a donation bucket. “We believe in giving back to the community. So, this is our big barbecue that we give back,” shares Arsenio. “We do this all from our heart for the community.” Arsenio says this year, money raised at their events will benefit The Door. “The Door is on Brunel Rd and it's run by Mercy Hill. It's a place where kids can go and be able to have someone to talk to,” he says. He says last year they had over 100 people showing up to the BBQ and this time around they're hoping for even more.
