Rotary Club of Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes exceeds fundraiser goal

Rotary Club of Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes raised $83,500 at its 22nd Annual Fundraiser Gala earlier this spring.  Leah Walker, executive director at the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, said the Rotary Club had a goal of $60,000 this year to purchase a portable ultrasound machine for our emergency department. She said the club surprised them as after receiving the cheque for the $60,000 they gave them an additional cheque for $23,000. “The money that's raised and that has been raised from these events means that we can purchase urgently needed equipment for our hospital,” said Walker. The money was raised from the event’s sponsors as well as ticket sales. Walker said when people give to the hospital, they help to ensure the doctors and nurses have the tools they need to care for everybody. She added every year there is a “very big list” of equipment needs from the hospital. “Every year we are raising anywhere from $2 to $3 million for new equipment. That's for departments throughout the entire hospital,” continued Walker. “It's all equipment that the government doesn't fund at all. It's only funded from donations.” The post Rotary Club of Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes exceeds fundraiser goal appeared first on My Muskoka Now.
