Highway 19A repairs causing significant delays near Oyster Bay

Drivers be aware, a culvert replacement along Highway 19A south of Campbell River is causing significant traffic delays. On Tuesday afternoon vehicles were backed up by the dozens in either direction, with Highway 19A reduced to single-lane only just north of the Oyster Bay Shoreline Park. Mid-afternoon, it took nearly a half an hour for traffic to make it through the 1.7 kilometre work zone. Crews have dug up the northbound lane to install a new storm drain culvert. The work is expected to be completed on Friday evening by 6 pm, according to Drive BC. Meanwhile drivers travelling between Campbell River and Black Creek can take the Inland Island Highway and connect via Hamm Road, or make sure to leave plenty of time and expect delays. Drivers are asked to be respectful and obey work zone speed limits, and to watch out for workers. Crews will be working from 5 am to 7 pm, but traffic is single-lane 24 hours a day until the work is completed.
