Revision of Law Worsens KPK's Performance

Jakarta (VOA) — Researcher at the Center for Indonesian Law and Policy Studies (PSHK) M. Nur Ramadhan in a discussion themed KPK Performance for the 2019-2024 Period, explained that in 2023 Indonesia obtained a Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score of 34 during the administration of President Joko Widodo. The stagnant CPI, he said, indicates that corruption eradication in Indonesia is still at a worrying stage. According to Nur, the revision of the KPK Law in 2019 has resulted in the status of the leadership no longer being investigators and prosecutors; the destruction of independence due to the transfer of status of KPK employees; the unclear position and authority of the KPK Supervisory Board; the emergence of controversy over the minimum age limit for KPK leadership nominations, and the creation of problems with the authority to issue letters of termination of investigation and prosecution (SP3). All of that, said Nur, has had a negative impact on the revision of the anti-corruption agency.
