Serbs in the north demand the release of buildings closed by the Kosovo authorities

Groups of Serbian citizens protested Monday outside the buildings of Serbia's parallel institutions in the north, days after authorities closed those institutions amid Western criticism of uncoordinated actions. The authorities in Kosovo said that the Serbian parallel municipalities in the north, “have been functioning under the directives of Serbia, violating the constitutionality and laws of the Republic of Kosovo”. The director of the Pension and Invalid Insurance Fund, Igor Simic, who worked until Friday in the buildings closed by the authorities of Pristina, said that those institutions are not parallel, but at the service of citizens. “We pay nearly 30,000 pensions for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity. More than 4 thousand Albanians will not be able to receive a pension because someone decided to enter these buildings and 26 thousand Serbs and Bosniaks”. he said, calling on the international community not to stand aside but to protect the Serbian people. “I invite the Quint countries, the European Union, UNMIK, all those who condemned these actions, to come and support these people, the right to work and the right of Serbs to live in Kosovo.
