Israeli Attacks in the West Bank Kill 9 People

Israeli forces launched raids and airstrikes on Wednesday (28/8) in the occupied West Bank and killed at least nine people. The Israeli military reported it carried out counterterrorism operations in Jenin and Tulkarm, and said it had killed five militants. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, in a statement posted on X on Wednesday, said that Israel must confront the threat of terrorism in the West Bank as it does in the Gaza Strip. Katz also accused Iran of funding and arming militants in the West Bank. Throughout Israel's war against Iran-backed Hamas in Gaza, Israeli forces have carried out repeated raids in the West Bank. Israeli forces and settlers have killed more than 640 Palestinians since the Gaza war began in October 2023, while Palestinian attacks have killed at least 19 Israelis. White House Middle East adviser Brett McGurk met with senior Qatari leaders Tuesday in Doha as part of efforts to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, a truce between Israel and Hamas that U.S. officials say is key to easing overall tensions in the region.
