Former President John Mahama reacts to calls for a world-class stadium

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has pledged that his next government will prioritize the improvement of sports infrastructure in the country. The former president spoke on a wide range of issues during his meeting with the press in Accra on Sunday, July 8, 2024. Part of his plans if elected into power in December's election is to ensure Ghana has some of the best sports facilities.Over the past few years, there has been a growing concern over the nature of pitches and the deplorable state of the various stadiums in the country.Before Ghana's World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, Black Stars captain Thomas Partey also raised the issue of players wanting a better playing field.“I will not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium, but I have said that under the Big Push, we intend to spend a certain amount of money over five years on providing good infrastructure including roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on and so forth, that could include sports facilities,” he said.“As part of the 24-hour economy, sports can play a very good part, and we will invest in sports facilities...
