Former Ghana football star Mohammed Polo has called on the current Black Stars players to uphold the legacy left behind by the country’s football legends.Ghana, once a dominant force in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and regular World Cup qualifiers, now find themselves struggling to qualify for AFCON.They opened their 2025 qualifying campaign with a defeat to Angola and a draw against Niger, leaving them in a precarious position with four crucial games remaining.Reflecting on these recent performances, which mirror Ghana’s early exits in the last AFCON tournaments, Polo emphasised the importance of preserving the team’s rich history. In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Polo said, "We should know things are not the way they used to be. We have to change our attitude as a football nation. The current players must know there is a legacy to protect. We left a mark during our playing days, and it will be prudent for the current generation to raise it, not downgrade it."The four-time African champions will face a crucial doubleheader against Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in October as they fight to revive their AFCON qualification hopes.
