Ghana FA reveals collaborating with FIFA for VAR implementation

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in the Ghana Premier League, following a successful meeting with FIFA.GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed the news during the 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on Tuesday, stating that the introduction of VAR is part of the association's efforts to improve refereeing and the overall quality of the league."The Ghana Football Association has taken steps towards the introduction of VAR, especially at the Ghana Premier League level. Our meeting with FIFA on this plan has gone well, and we look forward to this becoming a reality soon," Okraku said. The introduction of VAR is expected to minimise mistakes by match officials and enhance the accuracy of refereeing decisions in the league.Ghana first experienced the use of VAR during the 2022 World Cup playoffs against Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium, and the GFA is now committed to implementing the technology in the domestic league. This development is seen as a significant step forward for Ghana football, and fans can expect a more accurate and fair officiating in the Ghana Premier League soon.
