Democracy Cup: Nii Lante Vanderpuye criticises Accra Sports Stadium pitch quality

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has voiced his frustrations about the quality of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium. He made these remarks after participating in a curtain-raiser match between a Ghana Parliament select team and former Black Stars players in the Democracy Cup, part of the celebrations marking 30 years of democratic rule in Ghana on Wednesday.Reflecting on the criticism regarding the pitch's condition, the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency criticized the poor state of the field."The pitch is not as friendly as we would have wished it to be, and it was a struggle really controlling the ball, but to some extent, it’s okay, we’ve managed," he said."We should thank God that there has not been any serious injury…it was fun, and we all enjoyed ourselves," he added.Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak lost 2-1 to their bitter rival Asante Kotoko, marking the third consecutive loss for Hearts against Kotoko after losing twice in the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season.Asante Kotoko are set to face DC United in Washington in a friendly match on a yet-to-be-confirmed date.
