A Campbell River business owner is gearing up ahead of next month's Tour de Rock. Chris Seeley, owner of the Campbell River Boston Pizza, is the lone representative from the community and one of the few non-first responders selected for this year's ride. Seeley said he’s gets chills thinking about representing the community and hopes to make everybody proud. “It’s an incredible community, it’s been home for me and my family for just over 16 years now and the support this community shows for events like Tour de Rock is phenomenal.” Tour de Rock is a fundraiser where police agencies and emergency service personnel from across the Island cycle over 1,200 km to raise money for childhood cancer research. 16 riders are participating in the event this year, with just five of them not being attached to emergency services. Seeley said cancer has an impact on many lives including his own, with friends and family members battling it. Seeley plans to dedicate his ride to four families with junior riders in Campbell River who he’s been attached to. “I put their names on the back of my helmet so every time I get on my bike to train or to ride and I put my helmet on or take it off I see their names and that’s my motivation.” The Tour de Rock event starts September 21 and concludes on October 4.
