Randy Abbey announces continued role for young referees in youth championships

Randy Abbey, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has confirmed that the association's "Catch Them Young" referees will continue officiating in its youth tournaments.The announcement came during the launch of the 4th Edition of the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship at the GFA headquarters.The Catch Them Young initiative is part of the GFA's strategy to nurture young referees through practical experience in youth competitions. Currently, this program supports the KGL U17 Regional Championship and the newly introduced Elite U15 Academy Competition.Abbey, who is also the President of Heart of Lions, praised the KGL Foundation for its ongoing support in youth development. He emphasized the impact of the foundation's sponsorship, noting its critical role over the past four years.“In keeping with our policy to continuously encourage young talents, the Championships will be officiated by young referees selected from the GFA's Catch Them Young refereeing policy,” Abbey stated. “This initiative has already nurtured hundreds of young referees who have gained valuable experience officiating at the second tier of Ghanaian football.
