Belleville Police budget passed by city council

The Belleville Police Service budget is seeing an almost 11-per cent hike in 2025. The BPS operating budget of $28.9 million was brought before Belleville’s operating budget discussions by Police Chief Murray Rodd on Thursday. Two additional full-time staff members and one part-time civilian staffer is expected to be hired in 2025, while an officer complement increase to six new members that was previously authorized will be forwarded to the 2026 budget. A large portion of the budget, 88-per cent, is covered by salaries, pensions and benefits and it makes up a sizable chunk of the budget’s increase. Rodd said there are...
